Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. It is bordered by Artic Ocean to the north, Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mediterranean Sea to the south and Turkish Straits, Black Sea, Caspain Sea, Ural River and Ural Mountains to the east.

Europe, in particuclar ancient Greece was the birthplace of Western civilization. Europe also played a predominant role in global affairs between 16th and 20th centuries. European powers controlled at various times the Americas, most of Africa and Oceania and the majority of Asia.
